State politicians arranged for a special woman prosecutor to be appointed. The came from a very prominent family of politicians and it was felt that assigning her a prominent murder case would help launch her political career. |
Death Gene (Preview) |
Purchase $6.00 |
This is a science fiction book. This scene of this book is generally set two hundred years in the future. Initially, the story is set in Northen California in the late 1990's. A genetic gene-splicing experiment to cure a common genetic disease goes awry and a new virulent disease is inadvertently created and released. The effects of the disease are sexually determined: in men and post-menopausal women they are fatal within a few days, in pre-menopausal women the effects run from mental retardation to a complete vegetative state. After two hundred years, the human race had had deteriorated to less than 600 million people. One of the last bastions of modern humanity is in Hawaii which survived in part due to its physical isolation. A scientist realizing the extinction facing mankind decided to make a desperate journey to the mainland in an attempt to disocver anything that may be of assistance in curing the disease. The book chronicles the trip and the effects of a 200 year downslide of humanity.
| System Requirements |
These books are available for downloading in three different formats: WordPerfect 5.1, WordPerfect 6.1 and Adobe PDF. All of the books are written using the Courier Font which is generally universal in use.
The NAFTA WordPerfect 6.1 book contains an Appendix of reference forms not present in the WordPerfect 5.1 version because the forms could not be put into that format. Likewise, the Limited Liability Company Book is the same for each format except that the WordPerfect 5.1 version does not contain the California and Idaho forms for Articles of Organization which can be obtained from the Secretary of State. These forms are present in the WordPerfect 6.1 format.
An interesting point of note is that if a book is viewed by a computer using a different font or printer than the book was originally written, then the formatted margins and page length may be a little different which would throw off the book's index and may also slightly distort the layout of any forms in the book. This may require a small degree of editing to get the forms in proper form before printing. The topics in the index could still be found using the search feature of the Word Processing program.
The WordPerfect 5.1 and 6.1 formats are word processing formats. As such, the books are designed so that the forms contained therein can be completed on the computer and then run off on a printer thereby giving them a professional finish. Many word processing programs will convert these WordPerfect books into their formats but, in doing so, they may change the margins or fonts which might thereafter require some editing of the forms to once again give them a professional looking polish when printed. The word processing system, Word, for example, will convert WordPerfect 5.1 but will not convert WordPerfect 6.1. It is unknown if later Word versions will convert WordPerfect 6.1 as well as WordPerfect 5.1. Before ordering you should be aware of the capabilities of the word processing program which will be used to read these books.
For MacOS users, the PDF versions are recommended.
Besides the WordPerfect 5.1 and 6.1 formats, these books are also being offered in the PDF format. The PDF format is one recently developed for transmitting written material over the INTERNET. The PDF format basically presents the information in a completed page form. As such, each page of the book is just that, a completed page, which can not be altered by the computer. One advantage of this format is that the book always looks the same regardless of the computer or printer used run the page off. Another advantage is that the customer does not need a word processing program to view or read the book. The book is viewed using the Adobe Acrobat Reader which Adobe gives away adsolutely free, on its web page, in order to get businesses, like Lawyer at Large, LLC., to use its software. When a person wants to complete a form or run off a page of the book, that form or page is simply printed. Blanks in the form can be filled in by hand or by typewriter, there is no editing done whatsoever on the computer. This format makes using the books very easy because the potential problem of having the book's original formatting changed by the customer's computer does not exist. The Adobe Reader is available free, for downloading, from Adobe. In addition, many of the recent web browsers, such as Netscape Personel Edition 3, already come equipped with it or another PDF reader. To determine if you already have a PDF reader on your browser, go the Adobe web page and see if your browser reads the sample PDF pages, if it does, then your browser already as PDF reader. If not, you can download the Adobe Reader free. Then, all that remains is plugging it into your browser and you then are ready, not only to use it on these books, but also to view any PDF site on the Web as well.
